Setup my scanner!

I finally did it. I made my scanner more accessible. And here are a few images hot off the press (but in reverse if you think about it…?)

Hadn’t done much gesture drawing in a while, so figured it was a good time to do some last night while watching a video.

These are a couple of office doodles I did the other day while wishing I was outside.

The Perfect Dive

I finally got around to finishing it! I ended up taking this animation further than I intended when I first started it, but that is largely because I was learning the new software and wanted to test it out in each stage of a 2D production. It certainly has plenty of room for improvement, but it is definitily my best 2D animation to date:

I’m glad I got this one out of the way. I originally wanted to set myself up to do 2D so I could just do a whole bunch of quick pencil tests to study motion and get better at animation in general; but having started this project, I felt that I should finished before moving on, which ended up mentally blocking me from doing any of it. So hopefully I’ll start posting some of them-there pencil tests in the near future.

Sunset from balcony

Wow, that was fun. When I got home from work tonight I noticed that the sun setting over the mountains looked amazing. I’ve got a lot of work to do with my painting skills, but for 20 minutes work I’m pretty darn happy with it:

Nerftastic

So my friend and I have had this idea for a short quite a while back about these kids with over-active imaginations that engage in a Nerf war between one another. Not much has come of the idea, but we do like to kick out some concept work for it periodically… Here is my latest that I started at lunch the other day:

Quick Studies

Yeah Ok, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Sorry to disappoint… I’ve had a lot of other things taking my attention and using up my creativity. Not that I haven’t been drawing; usually during these times I’ll do study sketches to sharpen my creative ax. Typically from a book or tv, trying to pick up a better understanding of anatomy or light or character or whatever…

Here’s Christopher Reeves in the original Super Man

The Psychiatrist in Terminator 2

And after spraining my ankle last week, I did some foot studies from Louise Gordon’s anatomy book

My apologies for the poor quality images. I really need to make my scanner more accessible…

the Three Musketeers storyboard

Hey, this is fun! I get the rewarding sense of accomplishment that goes with making a post, without producing anything new. I am actually working on a new image, but I don’t expect to have it ready to post for another couple of days.

So here you go:

This was a storyboard of a short scene in “the Three Musketeers” that I did for my storyboarding class in college.

ehMmmm… Marsh Mallows

Man, after making so many consecutive postings last week, I feel bad for going a few days without sticking anything up. I was sick with a cold this past week and didn’t feel like doing much after getting home from work. I did a few study sketches, but nothing really worth scanning in. Instead, I’ll post some old stuff that hasn’t really seen the light of day.

These are from an animation short idea that a friend and I had for one of our classes in school:

Though there was some initial work done towards the animation (some of which can be seen in my rigging reel) the project fizzeled out and died. I hope to one day get back to it and do the idea justice.

p.s. DON’T STEAL MY IDEA! or you will suffer a marsh mallowy DOOOOOOM!

Molting Eddie

Woo, I’m on a roll! I had a lot of fun with this one. Playing around with the tools available in Painter IX, I think i’m starting to work with it instead of against it. Yeah, My feather painting skills have a lot to be desired, but I learned a lot from this one.
